This is my TedTalk which explores how surviving violent child abuse shaped me into the person I am today.
Being autistic served as a shield and fountainhead of strength from the toxic, narcissistic, and violent abuse I endured. This talk explores leveraging the positive and enchanting side to being autistic as a way to survive the unthinkable– such as the unique sense of individualism which prevented me from absorbing my father’s toxic traits and behaviour.
I look at the resilience we autistic people have against a world full of terrifying darkness and the strength we have to truly be ourselves in a society that tries to fit us all into the same shape and box.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. See more of Sophie Lavender on twitter and instgram @ShalomLavender
