Poetry: Heat

Context: Baking in the recent Canadian heat wave and witnessing its hardships triggered this piece. Hope this inspires people to build a world where we can thrive.

A blazing ball of fire
Spewing its fiery wrath;
Parched lips
Seeking the comforting kiss
Of an effervescent and chill soulmate;
Asking no favours,
Sweat bathed bodies,
Doing their delightful domestic dances;
A typical scene
In many a sunny clime;
An apocalyptic nightmare,
In our frosty shores.
Trapped,
In an alien world;
Stumbling,
Instead of waltzing;
Surviving,
Not thriving;
Yearning for normalcy.
Oh neuro-typical brethren!
Worry not.
This is only your
Short rehearsal
Of our eternal dance.

    THANK YOU dear Poet for sharing your thoughts broadly.
    I believe you’ve hit the proverbial nail squarely upon its head.

    This is EVERYTHING. Such lovely, intricate turns of phrases. Such delightful and poignant word-play. I am full of admiration and respect for you, Anantha! One of the interpretations of your name is “limitless” and I believe that is entirely accurate. Much love from two other Autistic poets.

  3. Vow Ananth! An amazing poetry……
    A blazing ball of fire
    Spewing its fiery wrath;
    Parched lips…..

    Trapped,
    In an alien world;
    Stumbling,
    Instead of waltzing;
    Surviving,
    Not thriving;
    Yearning for normalcy……

    Simply loved the lines and the essence captured in them. Looking forward to more from you….
